Lonely Lonely Oh So Lonely

JAMES LONG (Simon Fraser University), TAMPERE UNIVERSITY DEGREE PROGRAMME IN THEATRE ARTS NÄTY & TAMPERE THEATRE FESTIVAL

A lecture piece performed and directed by James Long

What is the sound of loneliness? Where is it located in your body? Where is it in your city?

Loneliness is something that Canadian contemporary theatre maker James Long both desires and despises. It's also something that brings him all the way to Tampere Theatre Festival with an offbeat, moving and playfully cerebral performance – a lecture, of sorts, about loneliness. He will spend a week in town beforehand, roaming the streets and talking with locals about the subject.

Combining research, local flavor and select slices from people, sites and projects with unique approaches to loneliness, Long's entertaining presentation also takes a look at how people are experiencing their lives after the pandemic.

In collaboration with Long, Näty (Degree Programme in Theatre Arts) students will be adding more angles to the work with their accompanying solo performances at the festival.

The student solo pieces are scheduled for the festival week.
