How is the independent (free) field seen and heard? What are independent artists, producers and communities talking about right now? How can regional and national creative industry networks support each other?

Professionals and organisations operating in the independent sector of the performing arts field will gather at Tampere Theatre Festival, invited by ETTA – Esittävän taiteen vapaat yhteisöt ry, Pirkanmaa luovat tuottajat ry and the national Tuottajakeskus Living Lab project.

The networking event is open to all interested parties and will spark a discussion on current topics in the independent field and foster new connections between artists, producers and communities.

The event is in Finnish.

We invite all performing artists to reflect on what artistic wellbeing means to them and how to maintain and nurture it in their art and professional life.

Artistic wellbeing refers to the way in which an artist gives meaning to their work and profession and feels fulfilled by it in a holistic way. Artistic wellbeing is also about being able to cope with and enjoy your work, but for us it means something more than wellbeing at work.

The seminar is in Finnish.

New novel dramatisations and a discussion

Uniarts / Dramaturgy and playwriting programme (TeaK), Writers Guild of Finland (Sunklo) & TTT-Theatre

Fri 8.8.2025 klo 15.30–17.30 TTT-Klubi, Hallituskatu 19

Playwriting students present their dramatisations, followed by a short reading of each play. The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion about adapting a novel for the stage.

Presentations and excerpts are from the following works:

PUNAINEN KUIN VERI
Text: Salla Simukka
Adaptation: Ville Vuorikoski
Performers: Lauri Ahonen, Iina Nyländen, Milla Palin, Elisa Mattila, Miriam Mekhane, Siiri Lehtinen
Rights: Ahlback Agency

KIVITASKU
Text: Anni Kytömäki
Adaptation: Anna Kirvesniemi
Performers: Lauri Ahonen, Iina Nyländen, Milla Palin, Elisa Mattila, Miriam Mekhane, Siiri Lehtinen
Rights: Nordic Drama Corner

VEDESTÄ JA SURUSTA
Text: Salli Kari
Adaptation: Venla Kinnunen
Performers: Sonja Arffman, Annika Junno, Senja Rajalin, Venla Pulkkinen
Rights: Nordic Drama Corner

The focus of the discussion is on artistic questions. How does prose turn into drama? How much artistic liberties should and may be taken? What does it mean for an adaptation to be faithful to the spirit of the original work? How does writing a dramatization differ from writing an original play?

Participants in discussion: Anna Kirvesniemi (Dramaturgy and playwriting student, TeaK), Hanna Suutela (dramaturge, TTT-Theatre), Kristian Smeds (director, dramaturge) and Heini Junkkaala (professor, dramaturge, TeaK), moderator Mika Vainio (play coordinator, Sunklo)

The event is open to everyone and free of charge. TTT-Klubi bar will be open throughout the event.

The event is held in Finnish.
