I Am Sanna Marin is an anarchic and physical contemporary theatre piece about power, the media, and the political game that we are all part of. The performance is not a biography and does not seek to reveal the truth about Sanna Marin as a person. Instead, it examines the public image that was constructed around her.

The work unfolds episodically, from birth to the years of prime ministership and beyond. The audience is taken to early moments when the future is still completely open, then into the backrooms of politics, election campaigns, and the realities of decision-making. On stage, we witness defeats, victories, and a long losing streak before the breakthrough.

Politics repeatedly appears as a struggle in which nothing happens quickly or cleanly. The performance features a city council meeting that spirals into absurdity as a debate about a tram line stretches on endlessly.

The characters engage in grassroots political campaigning at election tents, praise and criticize colleagues, and find themselves at the heart of political phenomena. The media is constantly present: questioning, interpreting, misunderstanding, and creating narratives. And then there is private life—or is there?

The piece also moves to the very centre of power. In Parliament, seemingly minor issues grow into ideological battles. The Prime Minister faces a pandemic, crisis communications, and the chaos of decision-making in a situation where demands, advice, and accusations arrive simultaneously from every direction.

I Am Sanna Marin is not a portrait of a person, but a portrait of an era. It examines democracy at a moment when politics is both reality and performance at the same time.
