Anne-Mari Kivimäki Trio

Anne-Mari Kivimäki is one of the most interesting artists in Finland, having seized concert stages with accordion trance. She is a distinctive musician and composer. Kivimäki’s music combines a hypnotic pulse, rasping archival recordings and the sound of a wistful Soviet-made Notka accordion. Kivimäki tours with her band and plays bellows full of music both on Finnish stages as well as on international concert arenas.

Anne-Mari Kivimäki has performed and represented Finland at international festivals and concert stages since 1997. In addition to European countries, she has toured widely in Russia. The accordion has also guided her to Benin, Mozambique and the USA.

Kivimäki was awarded the Artist of the Year award at the first Ethnogala in Finland in 2017, and her album Lakkautettu kylä has won awards and nominations in Germany as well as in Finland. These include, among others, an Emma nomination, the award for the Folk Album of the Year and the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (German Record Critics’ Award). The album reached 10th place at the respected World Music Charts Europe. Kivimäki has composed music for award-winning films: e.g. Devil’s Lungs won the Best VR 360° Film Award at VIS – Vienna Shorts Festival in 2018, Sijaton sielu (‘The Lost Soul’) received a short film nomination at the Tampere Film Festival National Competition in 2019, and the Suistamon Sähkö music video for “Kutsu”, which Kivimäki composed, won the main prize at the Oulu Music Video Festival 2021.
