Prima Facie

Suomen Kansallisteatteri

Written by Suzie Miller
Finnish translation by Aleksi Milonoff
Directed by Susanna Kuparinen

A fiery monologue play about sexual violence and power structures.

Tessa Ensler has worked her way up the legal ladder to become one of the top lawyers in the game. She specializes in defending clients charged with sexual offences. When Tessa becomes a rape victim herself, she must face the system she represents – this time from the plaintiff’s side. It changes her perceptions of truth and justice.

Directed by Susanna Kuparinen and performed by Annika Poijärvi, this stirring one-woman play reminds us that law is a manufactured structure, and imperfect as such. But it is also fixable. If we want to fix it.

The prizewinning Prima Facie has been translated into almost thirty languages and performed around the world. In Finland the play premiered at the National Theatre.

”The performer has to carry practically the entire piece. That’s not a problem for Annika Poijärvi, who shines for the whole two hours.”
Sanna Kangasniemi, Helsingin Sanomat

”Annika Poijärvi is excellent as Ensler.”
Tuomas Rantanen, Voima
