Tin Plate Angels
Tampereen Teatteri
Written, directed and performed by Arttu Soilumo
Tin Plate Angels turns downtown Tampere into a queer stage!
”Oh, so what does ’Tin Plate Angels’ mean? Well, back in the day in Tampere, public toilets used to be called that. They were popular cruising spots for gay men to find company, and sometimes you’d make new friends there. I hope this show can provide a similar meeting point for people to connect and see the past and the city from a different angle,” actor-creator Arttu Soilumo says.
A literal city tour from the Eteläpuisto park to legendary night club Mixei, from the 1930s to this day, Tin Plate Angels shines an affectionate light on Tampere’s queer community and its history, bringing to life people and places through the decades.
In collaboration with Nightclub Mixei, Restaurant Tillikka, Tampereen Tuomiokirkkoseurakunta (in English: Tampere Cathedral Congregation), Friends of Queer History (in Finnish: Sateenkaarihistorian ystävät ry), Sinuiksi ry, Transfeminiinit ry (in English: Transfeminines) and The Finnish Labour Museum Werstas.
