Endgame

Teatteri Siperia

Written by Samuel Beckett
Translated by Mika Leskinen
Directed by Heikki Huttu-Hiltunen

Samuel Beckett’s absurdist classic is set in a post-apocalyptic world, where the last survivors are hiding in a basement – Hamm, a blind man, and Clov, his servant. The outcome of the power struggle is certain, but the game has to be played to its conclusion nevertheless.

It’s a famous play, and the text must be kept intact. But the two exceptional actors on stage – Pekka Heikkinen, who was paralyzed in a traffic accident, and Bakr Hasan, who came to Finland as a refugee – add new dimensions to the piece, turning it into something less familiar.

Teatteri Siperia’s 20th anniversary production proves Endgame is now more topical than ever.

”Pekka Heikkinen and Bakr Hasan deliver an impressively dedicated rendition of a Samuel Beckett classic.”
