Three Sisters
Uniarts Helsinki’s Theatre Academy
Written by Anton Chekhov
Translated by the creative team
Directed and adapted by Alise Polacenko
Dramatized by Kirmo Komulainen
A new take on a Chekhov classic paints a picture of people trapped in a crumbling world. It depicts the quiet violence of staying when every fibre of your being is telling you to go.
War is closing in on the garrison town where the sisters live. The Russian Bear stumbles among dreams, loves, and farewells. The longing for Moscow has lost its innocence.
Director Alise Polacenko’s adaptation of Three Sisters is a tour de force of precise and dynamic acting. It’s an aesthetically exhilarating theatrical gem that evokes tears and laughter.
Starring a brilliant cast of emerging talents and Q-teatteri icon Tommi Korpela, this production is the thesis piece of Alise Polacenko, lighting designer Saana Hannonen, and eight actors.
”Young theatre artists make the future look brighter with their rendition of Chekhov’s play.”
