Based on the novel by Tommi Kinnunen
Dramatized and directed by Mikko Roiha

The Lapland War is over. Five women walk through the scorched earth. Their only goal is to survive, to get back into the life they thought they had left behind.

Defiance gives voice to women who were judged by others and whose way back is bound together only by shame and the certainty of the hate they will face. Featuring a magnificent cast, the play paints a stirring picture of a period in time that was never spoken of afterwards.

Adapted and directed by Mikko Roiha, this joint production between seven theatre companies is based on Tommi Kinnunen’s Finlandia-nominated novel. It tells the story of Finnish women returning from Norway after working for the Germans.

”The intensity of the performance is startling. You’re immediately immersed in this world.”
