A.K.A. (Also Known As)
Teatteri Jurkka & Lappeenrannan kaupunginteatteri
Written by Daniel J. Meyer
Finnish translation by Lumi Eronen
Directed by Tuomas Parkkinen
Who decides who we are? We ourselves or other people?
This is the core issue of A.K.A. (Also Known As), a young man’s furious monologue. It’s a love story that paints a startling picture of alienation, systemic discrimination and the ways in which racism and prejudice can destroy a young life.
Carlos, 16, and Claudia, 15, meet online. Carlos was adopted from abroad, Claudia is a native-born citizen. For them it doesn’t mean anything. They love each other. Then everything starts falling apart.
The mesmerizing Finnish-Colombian actor Carlos Orjuela grabs the audience with his empathetic and streetwise portrayal of a person breaking down.
”Orjuela is captivating.”
