Tampere Theatre Festival 2016 Has Come to an End – Audience Objectives Reached

The ratings of the Festival's Main Programme rose to a whopping 9 517, which more than fulfilled the audience objectives. 19 shows were completely sold out, including In the Republic of Happiness by Finnish National Theatre, The Phantom of Normality by Q-teatteri, Tar Baby by Desiree Burch and Platt Productions, and I'm Doing This for You by Haley McGee and Never Mind the Noise. The occupancy rates were measured at 80.7%.

Finnish Showcase, produced in co-operation with TINFO – Theatre Info Finland to promote Finnish theatre, was arranged for the fifth time. Its attendees consisted of 54 theatre professionals from 17 countries.

The Programme Tent presented nine performances, and its total number of attendees was 1 703. The concerts Kevätöistä unta by Kaj Chydenius, Oona Airola and Jussi Chydenius,  and To This We've Come by Tiina Weckström and Jussi Tuurna, as well as the two shows by Eeva Kontu feat. Lauri Viita, were all fully booked up.

Fringe Festival OFF Tampere celebrated its 25th anniversary with a spectacular line-up. The themes of the programme can be summarized by the concepts of multiculturalism and originality. There was a total of 44 performing groups, 52 productions and 121 shows.

Club Festival Encorebaana, organized in co-operation with Sokos Hotels Tampere and Pirkanmaan Osuuskauppa, attracted an audience of 1 200 to eight different restaurants around the city centre. The most popular ensembles turned out to be Aurinkoradio and Electric Beat Orgy. The line-up also included Dance Theatre MD, whose performance brought the showcase mannequins of the department store Sokos Tampere to life.

A total of 79 producing organizations, associations and performers took part in the Great Nocturnal Happening on the 4th of August. The 204 events and shows – 147 of which were free of charge – were scattered around the city, taking place at 60 different venues.

Tampere Theatre Festival presented a total of 168 free-of-charge events.

The Youth Theatre Festival Murros and Circus Ruska Festival were also organized as part of Tampere Theatre Festival.

Next year, the Festival will take place on 7th–13th of August. The Main Programme will be compiled by the artistic group: Milja Sarkola, Miko Jaakkola, and the recently appointed Erik Söderblom. Hanna Rosendahl, the executive director of Tampere Theatre Festival, will take part in the selection process.
