Happy World Theatre Day – The Main Programme will be announced on May 11

27.3.2023

Today we celebrate World Theatre Day and in honor of the occasion we are glad to announce that the Main Programme will be released May 11th at 11 a.m. The performances of the Main Programme are invited to the festival by the artistic team, Hilkka-Liisa Iivanainen, Tanjalotta Räikkä and Taija Helminen in cooperation with Hanna Rosendahl, the Executive Director of the festival.

We also announce T Lab Programme which consists of musical concerts and small-scale theatre performances. T Lab will be held at G Livelab Tampere, as in previous years.

World Theatre Day was initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute ITI. Ever since, each year on the 27th March (date of the opening of the 1962 "Theatre of Nations" season in Paris), World Theatre Day has been celebrated in many and varied ways.

Each year an outstanding figure in theatre or a person outstanding in heart and spirit from another field is invited to share his or her reflections on theatre and international harmony. What is known as the International Message is translated into more than 50 languages.

This year’s message author Samiha Ayoub is an Egyptian actress, born in the Shubra neighbourhood of Cairo. The message is translated by Hessa Alfalasi, UAE/Fujairah Centre of ITI.
