Tampere Theatre Festival’s press release 8.8.2022
For immediate release

The biggest theatre festival of the Nordic countries, Tampere Theatre Festival, attracted approximately 46 000 festivalgoers last week. The number includes all of the programmes and events of the Festival. The Theatre Festival took place from Monday to Sunday, 1.–7.8.

– We reached our goals regarding the number of festivalgoers very well, which we are very thankful for. Theatre has not lost its appeal during these recent challenging years – quite the contrary, actually. We are especially happy that the audience was interested in international productions, such as Farm Fatale by the French Vivarium Studio, which attracted over 600 theatregoers in Tampere, states the executive director of Tampere Theatre Festival, Hanna Rosendahl.

Nearly 6500 festivalgoers attended the productions of the Main Programme. There were altogether 39 performances in the Main Programme, of which 13 were sold out. Some of the most popular productions were Lempi by Rovaniemi Theatre, Where Did You Go? by Talvikki Eerola, The Mother by Turku City Theatre, Lou Salomé by KOM theatre, and The Greatest Happiness Is Being Happy by Teatteri Avoimet Ovet and Lahti City Theatre.

The TLab programme was attended by almost 1500 festivalgoers. Altogether ten performances were seen during the festival week at the G Livelab music club, five of which were sold out.

The OFF Tampere programme, Nocturnal Happening and Hotel Tammer Brunch also appealed to the crowd

The OFF Tampere programme hosted 36 productions this year, including the productions of several summer theatres and hobby groups from the Pirkanmaa area as well as Circus Ruska Festival with its street performances. Around 17 000 people attended the diverse performances of the OFF Tampere programme.

On the Thursday of the festival week, 4.8., the streets, cafés and parks of Tampere were taken over by the cross-disciplinary Nocturnal Happening. There were altogether around 150 events on that day, which were attended by an estimated 20 000 people.

The Theatre Festival organized a brunch concert on the Saturday of the festival week in cooperation with Grand Hotel Tammer. The pop kantele diva Ida Elina performed at the concert. The festival week also included an Opening Ceremony, seminars of the field, gatherings and exhibitions.

Finland Festivals will publish later in the year the comprehensive statistics and total numbers of attendees of domestic festivals – including the more precise statistics on the number of people who attended Tampere Theatre Festival.

The next Tampere Theatre Festival will be held 7.–13.8.2023. The artistic team formed by Hilkka-Liisa Iivanainen, Tanjalotta Räikkä and Taija Helminen is responsible for the selection of productions for the Main Programme.
