Comic artist and social critic Riina Tanskanen performs readings from her new book at the Werstas exhibition. With her sharp and recognizable voice, she blends reflections on class, feminism, and everyday insights.

7:30 PM – Hilppa Huusman: Periferia

Periferia is a contemporary solo dance piece by Hilppa Huusman, inspired by the storySyrjäseudun tytöt from Riina Tanskanen’s book. The physical work explores themes of exclusion, isolation, and the feeling of being left behind—both physically and emotionally.
A bodily study of the idea that "life is happening over there, and I am stuck here."
Duration: approx. 10 minutes
Dance & choreography: Hilppa Huusman
Soundscape: Alma Uimonen (Nelma U)

8:30 PM Spoken word: Riina Tanskanen: Tympeät tytöt – Luokkakipuja

A second spoken word set by Riina Tanskanen, revisiting themes of class, girlhood, and resistance through personal storytelling and comic book excerpts.

Riina Tanskanen’s Tympeät tytöt – Luokkakipuja features original drawings from her newly published book (Into Publishing, 2025). The exhibition includes 84 hand-drawn pages and large-format prints exploring the intersections of girlhood and economic structures.

The comic reveals how economic systems have always been intertwined with the labor and lives of girls—framed through stories of precarious work, rural decline, and the commercialization of well-being under the banner of “self-care.”
