August Start Night

Tampereen Ursa traditionally organizes the first stargazing show of the autumn season. The show is known as Elokuun tähtiyö (August Star Night) and it attracts plenty of visitors to the Observatory.

In the event of a clear weather we point the telescopes to the brightest objects of the starry sky visible on a late summer night. Items include the Moon, bright planets, double stars and brightest star clusters. You may also spot bright meteors, noctilucent clouds, and - if we are extra lucky - also northern lights.
During cloudy weather we will explore virtual night sky in our auditorium and of course provide a tour of the observatory.
The show will be held in Finnish, but there will be guides on hand who can chat with you in English.
