Jailhouse Rock
Lahden kaupunginteatteri
Based on Katariina Vuori’s book Erään tapon tarina
Adapted for the stage by Lauri Maijala
Directed and set design by Lauri Maijala
An achingly beautiful play about an act that became part of Finnish crime history – and about music that can save an entire life.
Asko, an elementary school kid, has two heroes: Grandma and Elvis. They both provide their own kind of shelter from Asko’s father, who is violent towards his son and Asko’s mother. The town knows about the family’s situation, but nobody’s doing anything about it – until it’s too late.
Lauri Maijala has turned one of Finland’s most well-known and shocking crime cases into a fearless and stirring stage production that shakes you up but also entertains.
”Lauri Maijala gives us an intricate portrait of a town of warmhearted people who know but are too afraid to act.”
– Ilkka Kuosmanen, Etelä-Suomen Sanomat
