Huojuu elämän puu

Poems and songs about peace, war, violence and freedom from the 1940s to the present

Writer Marja-Leena Mikkola and Docent of Folklore Studies Ulla-Maija Peltonen invited a group of Finnish artists to consider whether the poetry of war and peace could bring depth of thought to our militarized world.

The challenge was accepted by Teea Aarnio, Kristiina Halkola, Vuokko Hovatta, Antti Kujanpää and Jussi Lehtonen and Huojuu elämän puu was born. The performance is both a stage piece and a concert. It elevates poetry to a visible social resource and resonates powerfully in our troubled times.

Huojuu elämän puu includes works by twenty Finnish poets, from Katri Vala to Eeva-Liisa Manner. Composers include Kaj Chydenius, Eero Ojanen and Anna-Mari Kähärä.
