PORI THEATRE

Written by Aki Kaurismäki – Jarno Kuosa
Directed by Jarno Kuosa

A story about a sincere and wishful human being trying to survive in an unjust world.

Iris, an assembly worker, is still living with her mother and stepfather. Her life is quiet to the point of being totally silent. The household’s designated breadwinner and caretaker, she escapes her depressing reality by reading romance novels.

Sprinkled with cinematic visuals, beauty and humor, the play shows us what someone is capable of doing when the world keeps taking away everything.

This is the first stage adaptation of Aki Kaurismäki’s 1990 film, which received accolades from across the globe, from the Berlinale to the New York Film Critics Circle to the Finnish Jussi Awards.

”Kaurismäki-esque is a standard which Pori Theatre plays with a unique twang.”
Henrika Bäcklund, Satakunnan Kansa newspaper (text in Finnish and behind a paywall)
