The Red Orphans

Sarin Sakki

Finland was in pieces after the civil war. White widows and orphans received compensation from the state unlike red widows or orphans. Instead, the red widows were offered poor aid which meant losing their right to vote and also the right to their children. For this problem, Ester (becoming First Lady) and Rose had a solution. Ester invented Operation Ostrobothnia, whose aim was to move children to good patriotic homes in Ostrobothnia. Rose started to take care of children’s homes.
