Gogol. Evenings: Spring
SounDrama Studio (Russia)
Nikolai Gogol; Adapted by Irina Lichagina; Directed by Vladimir Pankov
Another reality gets mixed with the fair fever in the Dikanka village. Witches and vampires run riot in the villagers’ yards and cottages; boisterously, full of mischief, speaking in odd languages. The Russian SounDrama Studio’s interpretation of Gogol’s May Night vibrates with enchanting power; the exalted chorus parts resonate in every corner of the scenery.
SounDrama’s creative and multi-talented team of musicians, actors, sound designers and choreographers captivates their audience with the incredible visual richness they’ve given to the tale’s ambience of horror and archetypal love story. The music flows effortlessly between folk themes, rock’n’roll and tunes from Rimski-Korsakov’s opera May Night.
SounDrama theatre-makers create their own paths. They are the new brilliant stars of Russian contemporary theatre. This performance is the first part of series of performances, the second part was performed in Baltic Circle International Theatre Festival in Helsinki, the third was the premier of the 2009, and the last fourth part will be premiered in the end of 2011.
