Great Nocturnal Happening Takes Over the Whole City of Tampere

On Thursday August 5th Tampere is taken over by the carnevalistic Great Nocturnal Happening. The happening is organized in connection with Tampere Theatre Festival and it includes dance performances, music, films, interviews with novelists, improvisation theatre, stand-up comedy and programme for children, among others. Also many museums have extended opening times due to the Great Nocturnal Happening. More information here.


The Opening Ceremonies of the Festival

The traditional Tampere Theatre Festival's Opening Ceremonies will be celebrated in the front of Vanha Kirjastotalo on Tuesday 3.8. at 12am. The Opening is free of charge. Read the programme here.

Programme Tent: The Performers from Furthest Away Arrive from Borduria

The Programme Tent is an arena for a wide variety of performing arts, drama, dance, monologues, vocal performances and concerts. It is also a cosy, fully licensed bar. The Tent is pitched on the Central Square for the 11th time this year. Lovers of high level performing arts are entertained with ten performances on five days, August 3–7.More information here.


Koltès' Themes Still Current

Bernard-Marie Koltès (1948–1989), the writer of Quai Ouest (Quay West), was a French playwright and director. He became famous for his co-operation with director Patrice Chéreau, who directed each of his plays. Koltès died of AIDS in the age of 41. Read more information about Koltès here.


Alvis Hermanis Visits Tampere Again

The much appreciated director Alvis Hermanis visits Tampere Theatre Festival for the fifth time. This year Hermanis and his play The Young Ladies of Wilko is brought to Tampere by Prospero, which is a cooperation project of six theatre cities.
