Finnish Showcase 2016 Presents Artists of Contemporary Finnish Theatre

9.6.2016

Finnish Showcase, organised for the fifth time by Tampere Theatre Festival and Theatre Info Finland (TINFO), brings forth an in-depth experience of Finnish theatre. The special programme shines the spotlight on contemporary Finnish theatre productions and professionals. The Showcase is organised specifically for the international guests of the Festival.

Finnish Showcase 2016 consists of a select group of theatre productions from the Main Programme of Tampere Theatre Festival, all subtitled in English. Furthermore, additional events will provide the attendees with a deeper insight into the subject matters and creators of the performances, as well as an opportunity to discuss current developments in the field of theatre.

The six Finnish productions selected for the Showcase are The Phantom of Normality, written and directed by Saara Turunen (Q-teatteri); Transformations, created by Transforces & Teemu Mäki; PLAY RAPE, a solo performance by Anna Paavilainen (Klockriketeatern); In the Republic of Happiness, directed and translated into Finnish by Minna Leino (Finnish National Theatre); My Palestine, written and directed by Noora Dadu (Dadu & Teatteri Takomo); and The Metamorphosis, choreographed by Carl Knif (Svenska Teatern).

The three additional Showcase events will take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The first event is a relaxed meeting with the curators, where the artistic team will lead a discussion on current events and the topical themes of the Festival. The gathering on Friday centres on the Showcase performances, and will include a chance to meet and converse with their makers. The final event examines the prospects of Finnish theatre in the light of current visions and trends, and speeches by Finnish theatre professionals will form the basis for discussion.
